The Weakerthans, "Uncorrected Proofs"
Started reading On The Road today. I like it, but looking into where it came from made me a little sad.
I wiki'd it, because, you know, that's the quickest way to figure anything out anymore and I ended up clicking around all of the related articles, mostly about the Beat Generation and its important players. I don't know, it probably seems kind of stupid...but now I kind of wish I could have been there. :/
I mean, I'm not so into the random hallucinogenic experimentation and amphetamine-induced three-day straight writing sprees, but I kind of like the idea of a community, you know? Social circles of like-minded people who somehow manage to define an entire generation. I have a yearning for that feeling of camaraderie. But is the entire concept dead? Another thing killed by mass communication and globalization? I love the Internet as much as the next pasty-faced fifteen year old, but it's certainly done its share of damage.
I have all these dreams of creating something meaningful. Something bigger than me that manages to survive, assuming this planet manages to keep chugging onward. I have these little absent daydreams of starting something new, be it a movement, a style, a philosophy, or even just a single poem, so long as it's something, and something of substance.
I'd venture to say that leaving a legacy is my greatest dream, and failing to do so equal with death among my greatest fears
